(May 23, 2017, Mississauga, ON) The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is pleased to acknowledge Dr. Michael Klein’s appointment to the Order of Canada by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada on May 12, 2017. The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, and service to the nation.

Dr. Michael Klein is recognized for his revolutionary work in obstetrics that improved health outcomes for new mothers in Canada and around the world, in spearheading new practices in maternity care, and championing collaborative team-based primary care far before it was a common practice. This award is a testament to Dr. Klein’s distinguished service and exceptional leadership in family medicine, research, advocacy and patient care. His achievements are many, and serve as a great source of inspiration to his peers.

The CFPC extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Klein on receiving this most prestigious award.

The CFPC represents more than 35,000 members across the country. It is the professional organization responsible for establishing standards for the training and certification of family physicians. The CFPC reviews and accredits continuing professional development programs and materials that enable family physicians to meet certification and licensing requirements and lifelong learning interests. It also accredits postgraduate family medicine training in Canada’s 17 medical schools. The College provides quality services, supports family medicine teaching and research, and advocates on behalf of family physicians and the specialty of family medicine.
